SASKATCHEWAN RULES
For employers across Saskatchewan, including Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw and Swift Current.
Saskatchewan’s vacation-pay guidance uses 3/52 of eligible wages during the first nine years and 4/52 after ten years of employment. The wage base includes items such as overtime and earned commissions. Keep the fraction instead of substituting a generic 4% assumption.
Moving from spreadsheets, checking the percentage is not enough. Reconcile the earnings categories in the opening balance, the service date and the vacation already paid. A mismatch often comes from an omitted earnings category, not a multiplication error.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE
As an arithmetic illustration, $52,000 in eligible wages multiplied by 3/52 gives $3,000, and the same wage base at 4/52 gives $4,000. Now suppose a Saskatoon business pays an employee a salary plus earned commission. Before the vacation review, the preparer checks that both earnings are in the source records and applies the provincial guidance to each.
The owner reviews the wage base and service tier before checking the arithmetic. This fictional example shows the order of review and does not decide which other payments belong in a particular worker’s base.
EVERYTHING IN ONE PLACE
Your team sees pay statements, tax information and employment details on iOS, Android or the web.
Year-end slips and Records of Employment come from the payroll you approved. Manual slips are included; automatic issue is $15 per T4 or T4A and $5 per ROE.
Record hours on timesheets and bring approved time into the pay run.
Automated pay runs send employee pay by direct deposit for $6 per person per pay run.
Send TD1s and other documents for e-signature for $1 per signed document.
QUESTIONS
Do not assume a default from another province fits. Saskatchewan’s published formulas use 3/52 and 4/52 depending on service. Check the wage base and the applicable entitlement before approving the result.
No. Keep and verify the actual service history when setting up payroll. The date a profile was created in software does not replace the employment records used to work out entitlements.
There is no monthly fee. Manual payroll is free and includes unlimited employees, contractors and pay runs; you arrange the payments and remittances yourself. Automated payments cost $6 per person per automated pay run. For example, ten people on one automated run come to $60, and a manual run costs $0. Optional ROE filing is $5 per document and T4 or T4A filing is $15 per document. Prices are in CAD, and wages, taxes and remittances are separate.
No. PayHr supports payroll in every Canadian province except Quebec, so this page is for Saskatchewan employers and for businesses whose employees work in the other supported provinces.
Yes. Run a completed historical pay period through PayHr using the same inputs, and compare employee details, earnings and deductions with your reports before approving a live run. Include someone with commission or other variable earnings in the check.
No monthly fee. Manual payroll stays free; automate a pay run only when you want to.
