Provincial payroll
Prince Edward Island payroll software: 2026 guide
Prince Edward Island employers reviewing payroll in 2026 should check the dates on their reference material. The province introduced a new Employment Standards Act on June 30, 2026. PayHr supports P.E.I. payroll; a good setup preserves the history needed to apply the right treatment to the period being reviewed.

Update the reference material behind your payroll
The province’s June 2026 changes guide describes the new Act and the change to the service threshold for three weeks of vacation, from eight years to five. Its current vacation guidance explains time off and vacation pay.
If an old spreadsheet or checklist still references the former threshold, flag it for review. Keep earlier-period records intact and check the applicable effective date before adjusting historical figures. A current rule should not silently overwrite the basis of an earlier calculation.
Preserve service history for seasonal employees
A Charlottetown shop may employ year-round staff alongside people returning for a busy season. Record the relevant employment history and confirm how it applies; a fresh seasonal schedule does not, on its own, answer questions about continuity or accrued entitlements.
Before the first run, check original start dates, prior balances, amounts already paid and the records supporting them. Resolve inconsistent dates while the previous reports and responsible manager are available. Do not postpone that work until someone requests vacation.
Example: an outdated vacation spreadsheet
Imagine a Summerside business discovers that its payroll checklist was last updated in 2025. The preparer compares it with the new provincial guidance, identifies employees whose service history needs review and separates current setup questions from any earlier-period reconciliation.
The reviewer records what changed, the effective date and the supporting source. Any correction receives an explanation rather than being mixed into ordinary earnings without a note. This fictional example illustrates change control; it does not determine an individual employee’s balance.
Choose a workflow that survives staff turnover
Small seasonal teams benefit from a repeatable handoff. Write down who collects timesheets, who checks changed rates and who approves payroll when the usual owner is away. Keep a separate list of payment and document tasks at the end of a season.
Evaluate software using that handoff, not just a clean sample dashboard. Our first payroll checklist covers the setup evidence, while the PayHr getting started guide explains workspace onboarding.
