Shift Duration Calculator
Find the paid time in a single shift, including shifts that finish the following day.

HOW IT WORKS
Use the shift duration
- Enter the clock-in and clock-out times.
- Select Next day if the shift ends on the following calendar day.
- Add any unpaid break in minutes, then calculate paid hours.
A worked example
A shift from 22:00 to 06:00 the next day lasts eight hours. Subtract a 45-minute unpaid break to get 7 hours 15 minutes, or 7.25 decimal hours.
What this tool includes
This calculator uses the clock times you enter and supports shifts of up to 24 hours. It does not use dates or time zones. If a shift crosses a daylight-saving clock change, confirm the actual elapsed time in your timekeeping records before paying it.
Common questions
Why is Next day a separate setting?
It prevents a reversed start and end time from silently being interpreted as an overnight shift. You decide whether the end belongs to the next day.
Should I subtract all breaks?
Subtract only unpaid breaks. Whether a break is paid depends on the employment arrangement and applicable rules.
Can I calculate several shifts at once?
Use the free timesheet calculator for a seven-row time card and CSV download.
