PAYHR TUTORIALS / TAXES & COMPLIANCE

Track CRA remittances.

Every payroll creates source deductions you owe the Canada Revenue Agency: income tax, CPP, CPP2 and EI, plus the employer's share. This walkthrough shows PayHr's Taxes page, where those amounts collect into remittance periods with due dates based on your CRA remitter type.

INSIDE THE WALKTHROUGH

One step at a time.

  1. The Taxes page

Open Taxes in the sidebar. Every approved payroll adds income tax, CPP, CPP2 and EI that you owe the Canada Revenue Agency. The cards total what's accumulating, what's due and what you've recorded as paid, and Next due shows your upcoming deadline.

  2. Set your remitter type

Due dates depend on your CRA remitter type, so choose Remitter schedule. Most employers are regular remitters, paying by the fifteenth of the following month. Pick the type on your CRA notice, confirm it, and save. Employer EI is set here too.

  3. Open a remittance period

Back on Taxes, each row is one remittance period. Open one to see the amount accrued, the tax breakdown, and the payrolls it includes with gross wages and the number of employees. Those are the figures your bank asks for when you remit.

  4. Record a payment

Pay CRA through your business online banking or another CRA payment method. Once CRA has received it, use Record payment: enter the amount, the date CRA received it, and your confirmation number. Recording only updates your tracking. PayHr doesn't move money.

  5. How to pay CRA

Not sure how to pay? How to pay CRA lists what to have ready and the online banking steps. If your workspace uses Automated Pay, the PayHr team handles those remittances, so don't pay them twice.
